Evernote - Short Review

Collaboration Tools

Evernote Overview

Evernote is a comprehensive note-taking and task-management application developed by the Evernote Corporation, designed to help users create, organize, and sync digital notes across various devices.

Core Functionality

Evernote allows users to create and store notes in virtual “notebooks” that can be tagged, annotated, edited, searched, and exported. These notes can include a variety of content such as text, photos, audio recordings, and saved web content. The application is available on multiple platforms, including Microsoft Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS, ensuring seamless access and synchronization across all devices.

Key Features

Note Organization

  • Notes can be organized using tags, which help in easy searching and associating related notes. Users can add tags by typing them in the “Add tag” field at the bottom of a note.
  • Notes can also be saved as shortcuts for quick access, eliminating the need for constant searching.

Task Management

  • Evernote includes a robust task management system where users can create and manage to-do lists. Tasks can be assigned to other Evernote users, and tasks are integrated with the calendar, allowing them to appear according to their due dates and times.

Calendar Integration

  • The application integrates with calendars, such as Google Calendar, to create and access notes linked to events. This integration ensures that notes, tasks, and schedule are consolidated in a single view, enhancing productivity.

Advanced Editing Features

  • Recent updates have introduced features like table of contents and linked headers, making navigation within notes easier. Users can also use slash commands to add headings, checklists, bullet lists, and the current date and time quickly. The “@ command” allows linking to existing notes directly.
  • The application now includes quote blocks for highlighting key points and advanced code blocks with syntax highlighting for various coding languages.

Daily Notes and Voice-to-Text

  • Evernote offers a Daily Notes feature, providing users with daily note templates (Agenda, To-do list, or Journal) to help build consistent note-taking habits.
  • Voice-to-text functionality allows users to record voice notes when typing is not convenient.

File Management

  • The new Files feature enables users to view all attachments in one place, with links back to the relevant notes. This makes managing documents, scans, images, and other files more efficient.

Sharing and Collaboration

  • Evernote allows for easy sharing of notes with a redesigned sharing modal that enhances security. Tasks can be assigned to others, even if they do not have an Evernote account, facilitating collaboration.

AI Assistance and Scanning

  • Users can leverage AI assistance to expedite note-taking and scan handwritten notes or documents directly into Evernote.

Subscription Plans

Evernote offers various subscription plans, including a free tier and paid tiers such as Personal and Professional.

  • Free Plan: Limited to a single device with a maximum of two “desyncs” per month, a 60 MB monthly upload limit, and restricted to 1 notebook and 50 notes as of July 2024.
  • Personal Plan: Includes features like offline notes on mobile devices, text search within images, and a 1 GB monthly upload limit.
  • Professional Plan: Offers a 20 GB monthly upload limit, the ability to export notes as PDF files, and forward emails directly into Evernote.

Overall, Evernote is a powerful tool for note-taking, task management, and file organization, making it an essential application for both personal and professional use.
