Product Overview of Motus Global (Now Driveline’s PULSE)

Introduction

Motus Global, now integrated into Driveline Baseball’s ecosystem as PULSE, is a cutting-edge workload management system designed specifically for pitchers to optimize their training, prevent injuries, and enhance performance. Following Driveline Baseball’s acquisition of Motus Global’s sensor business, the technology has been refined and simplified to provide a more user-friendly and effective solution.

What PULSE Does

PULSE is a workload management tool that helps pitchers and their coaches answer the fundamental question: “How much should I throw?” It integrates advanced biomechanics and sensor technology to monitor and manage throwing workloads, ensuring that athletes can train efficiently and safely.

Key Features and Functionality

Simplified Workload Management

  • Unlike the previous Motus system, PULSE eliminates the need for a 3-day lock period before data becomes available. Instead, it provides immediate prescribed workloads, making it easier for pitchers to start their training plans right away.

Easy to Use

  • The system is designed to be user-friendly, removing the complexity of tagging every throw or calculating detailed metrics. PULSE offers a straightforward interface that shows only the necessary information, such as past throwing intensity, current workload, and daily throwing targets.

TRAQ Integration

  • PULSE seamlessly integrates with Driveline’s TRAQ (Training, Recovery, and Quality) system, allowing athletes to view their TRAQ workouts within the PULSE app and see their daily workload in TRAQ. This integration enhances the overall training experience by providing a cohesive and connected platform.

Advanced Metrics

  • PULSE includes updated and new metrics such as:
  • Weighted Ball Stress: Provides more accurate estimated torque values based on studies by Driveline and the American Sports Medicine Institute (ASMI).
  • Estimated Throwing Efficiency: A measure of how efficient a pitcher’s mechanics are compared to their peers (feature coming soon).

Modes of Operation

  • PULSE offers several modes to cater to different aspects of a pitcher’s training:
  • Live Mode: View throw metrics in real-time.
  • Bullpen Mode: Receive feedback on command and consistency between pitch types during bullpen sessions.
  • Longtoss Mode: Build customized longtoss programs based on maximum safe throwing distances.
  • Video Mode: Overlay throw metrics with recorded video for detailed analysis.

Adaptive Training

  • The system learns about the athlete’s throwing habits and adjusts the training program accordingly. After a few days of using the sensor, PULSE provides insights into how different throwing days compare, helping athletes and coaches make informed decisions.

Conclusion

PULSE, the evolved version of Motus Global’s technology under Driveline Baseball, is a powerful tool for managing pitcher workloads. It combines advanced biomechanics, user-friendly design, and integrated features to help pitchers optimize their training, reduce the risk of injury, and enhance their overall performance.
