Product Overview: Botto

Introduction

Botto is a decentralized autonomous artist, representing a groundbreaking intersection of machine creativity, community engagement, and artificial intelligence. Launched on October 8, 2021, Botto is an experiment in community-driven art, agency, and value distribution.

Key Features and Functionality

Autonomous Art Creation

Botto operates as a fully autonomous artist with a closed-loop process, where outputs are unaltered by human hands. It utilizes a combination of open-source text-to-image generative models, text prompt generators, and computer vision models. These models, among the largest neural network architectures available, have been trained on billions of works of art, images, and textual content.

Community-Driven Process

The creative process is driven by a community of users who hold the $BOTTO token, the native cryptocurrency of the project. This token enables holders to participate in voting on the artworks generated by Botto. Each week, Botto produces 50 unique, algorithmically influenced pieces of art, which are then presented to the community for voting. The most popular piece is selected, minted as an NFT, and put up for auction on platforms like SuperRare.

Algorithmic Generation

Botto’s art engine generates images based on text prompts created by an algorithm. These prompts are a mix of random words and phrases, ensuring a vast range of possible styles and themes. The engine uses various models such as VQCLIP GAN, Stable Diffusion, and Kandinsky to convert these prompts into visual art. The models are updated regularly to incorporate new releases and advancements.

Voting and Feedback Loop

The community’s votes influence Botto’s future creations. The engine adjusts its prompts based on the popularity of previous artworks, creating a continuous feedback loop that helps Botto learn and evolve. This process ensures that Botto’s artistic talent is developed in line with community preferences.

Title and Description Generation

Titles for Botto’s artworks are generated algorithmically using random combinations of words, which are then matched with the image using CLIP (Contrastive Language-Image Pre-training). Descriptions are generated by large language models (LLMs) such as GPT or Claude, with minimal human curation to ensure they align with Botto’s voice and style.

On-Chain Minting

The final artwork, including its title, description, metadata, and URL to the bitmap on IPFS, is minted on-chain using Manifold. This ensures transparency and immutability in the creation and ownership of Botto’s artworks.

No Human Interference

A core principle of Botto is the absence of direct human interference in the creation process. This rule ensures that Botto maintains its autonomy and agency, with human involvement limited to voting and minimal curation of descriptions.

Conclusion

Botto represents a novel approach to artistic creation, blending AI-driven artistry with community engagement and decentralized governance. Its autonomous operation, driven by advanced generative models and community feedback, makes it a unique and evolving entity in the world of digital art.
