Product Overview: Hover WHOIS Privacy

Hover’s WHOIS Privacy is a feature integrated into their domain registration services, designed to protect the personal information of domain registrants from public exposure.

What it Does

When you register a domain, you are required to provide contact information, which is typically stored in the publicly accessible WHOIS database. Hover’s WHOIS Privacy feature redacts this personal information from the WHOIS database, ensuring that your name, address, phone number, and email address are not publicly visible. Instead, the WHOIS lookup will display generic contact information provided by Contact Privacy Inc., a service that acts as a proxy.

Key Features and Functionality

  • Automatic Enablement: WHOIS Privacy is enabled by default on all eligible domains registered through Hover, providing immediate protection for your personal data.
  • Free of Charge: Unlike many other domain registrars, Hover includes WHOIS Privacy at no additional cost, making it a valuable inclusion in their domain registration packages.
  • Comprehensive Coverage: This feature is available for the vast majority of top-level domains (TLDs), including generic TLDs like .COM, .NET, and many others. However, there are some exceptions, particularly with certain country-code TLDs (ccTLDs).
  • Filtered Contact: When someone attempts to contact the domain registrant through the proxy email address displayed in the WHOIS lookup, they will receive an automated response with a link to an online form. This form is then sent to the registrant’s email address, helping to filter out spammers and ensure only legitimate contacts reach the registrant.
  • Optional Public Display: If you prefer to have your contact information publicly displayed in the WHOIS database, you can request this change through Hover’s support team. This requires your consent via email, and the changes will be reflected within 24-48 hours.
  • Easy Management: Users can manage their WHOIS Privacy settings directly from their Hover control panel. This involves logging in, selecting the domain, and toggling the WHOIS Privacy switch to enable or disable the feature.

By incorporating WHOIS Privacy into their services, Hover ensures that domain registrants can maintain their privacy and security, making it a significant advantage for those choosing to register domains through their platform.
