What is Polymorph?

Polymorph is a thermoplastic material that combines the properties of a tough engineering material with the ease of mouldability at relatively low temperatures. It is part of a new generation of commercial polymers designed to impact various industries, including model making, prototyping, and manufacturing.

Key Features

Mouldability and Reusability

Polymorph softens and becomes easily mouldable at just 62°C, which can be achieved using hot water or a hairdryer. Once moulded, it cools to form a solid, durable structure similar to nylon in strength and toughness. This material can be reheated and remoulded multiple times, making it highly reusable.

Versatile Applications

Polymorph is suitable for a wide range of applications, including:

  • Moulding of handles and orthopaedic aids
  • Creating vacuum forming moulds
  • Producing moulds for batch manufacturing other mouldings
  • Prototyping mechanical parts
  • Serving as armatures or frames for models
  • Creating inserts for compliant products
  • Manufacturing specialized components, such as motor mountings
  • Moulding complete products, like torches
  • Joining components together

Customization

The material can be coloured by adding a small amount of food dye when it is in its soft state, allowing for customization of the final product.

Ease of Use

Polymorph can be shaped by hand or pressed into a shape using a mould, making it accessible for both hobbyists and professionals in various fields such as design, technology, and engineering.

Functionality

  • Thermoplastic Properties: Polymorph transitions from a flexible, mouldable state to a rigid, durable state as it cools, and this process can be repeated multiple times.
  • Multi-Purpose Use: It is used in manufacturing, prototyping, and model making due to its ability to form complex shapes and its reuse capabilities.
  • User-Friendly: The material is supplied in granules that resemble small plastic beads and can be easily heated and moulded without specialized equipment.

In summary, Polymorph is a highly versatile thermoplastic material that offers a unique combination of toughness, mouldability, and reusability, making it an invaluable tool for various industrial and creative applications.
